About Us

For over a century, the Danish Cultural Center in Greenville, Michigan has stood as a proud symbol of community, heritage, and resilience. Our roots trace back to the early gatherings of the Danish Brotherhood and Sisterhood in 1893 and 1903, when Danish immigrants came together for fellowship and mutual support. In the 1930s, after a devastating fire, a new brick building was constructed—and it still serves as our home today. Through the decades, this space has hosted countless celebrations, educational events, and cultural exchanges, becoming a cornerstone of Greenville’s identity as “The Danish Festival City.”

Today, we continue that legacy with a renewed vision for the future. The Danish Cultural Center is in the process of renovating the upper level of our building to establish a permanent museum dedicated to Danish-American heritage. This museum will serve as an educational resource, cultural landmark, and community gathering place. We are honored to collaborate with the renowned Cranbrook Institute and Dr. Michael Stafford, who are guiding the development of the museum’s design, curation, and educational programming. Designed around a sixth-grade learning model, the museum will offer both permanent and rotating exhibits—ensuring it remains dynamic, engaging, and accessible to people of all ages.

As we grow, our mission remains clear: to preserve and disseminate the rich heritage and traditions of Danish immigrants while educating the community about Danish culture. From our Youth Ambassador Program to our summer camps and participation in the annual Danish Festival, we strive to offer meaningful opportunities for connection, learning, and celebration. The support of our community—whether through financial contributions, artifact donations, or volunteer efforts—is vital to helping us bring this museum and our vision to life. Together, we are creating a lasting tribute to the stories, values, and cultural contributions that have helped shape Greenville for generations.
